River Road was inspired by walking a fall morning through Hoboken, New Jersey alongside the Hudson River. I have always loved architecture, especially when passing by the old brownstones that lined the street. I loved the details. The contrasts of the sunlight hitting the stone and the craftsmanship of all the exterior components.
I chose pen and ink as my medium to emphasize the details of these buildings. I wanted to show the texture, geometric shapes that compose those buildings, and the difference between dark and light. My first love in art was architecture. So, I deconstructed those elements and put them together differently in my compositions. When I use the fine liners, my goal is to showcase the texture and the direction of the different objects that I am focusing on to create an engineered perspective.
